HEALTH STATEMENT FROM MAESTRO MASUR DECEMBER 11, 2001 Looking back at the past months, I feel deep gratitude. I have to thank Professor Doctor Hauss and the donor of the transplant kidney, my nephew, who lives and works as a sculptor in Hiddensee and Zwickau in Germany, for my newly recovered health. I had reached the decision to undergo the operation in Leipzig in the Clinic of the University because of my increasing trust to the team of doctors and Professor Hauss. The transplant center in Leipzig utilizes not only the most modern technology and facilities, but also provides knowledgeable and motivated nurses and doctors whom I want to thank from the bottom of my heart. I feel extraordinarily bound to my New York Philharmonic for their continual concern and human support over the last weeks. Last but not least I owe my newly recovered health, which for me is especially precious, to the far-sightedness and love of my wife. Thank you to you all at the Leipzig University Clinic for the care and the impressive work ethics. With best Christmas wishes, Yours, Kurt Masur |
